Allen: Kerry off State short-list

Politico's Mike Allen says if John Kerry leaves the Senate, he won't be heading to the State Department, even if Hillary Clinton says no to the reported offer.

The remaining candidates, according to Allen are:

  • Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.)
  • New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson
  • Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-Neb.)

UPDATE: And a day later, Allen walks it back, saying Kerry is still in the running.
