Rasmussen: Romney trails Palin as 2012 frontrunner

Former Gov. Mitt Romney, who is often the subject of speculation surrounding a possible 2012 presidential run, significantly trails Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin in a recent survey of who Republican voters see as the frontrunner for 2012.

The Rasmussen poll, conducted the day after the election and released on Friday, showed that 64 percent of 1,000 likely Republican voters would support Palin over Romney, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty and Florida Gov. Charlie Crist.

Romney came in third with 11 percent, behind Huckabee's 12 percent. Palin also leads Romney in favorability ratings amongst the Republicans in this survey.

NBC-WSJ pollster: Romney the early, early frontrunner

There's a developing story from NBC-Wall Street Journal GOP pollster Neil Newhouse to keep an eye on today. A post-election survey last night found 29 percent of all voters want Mitt Romney as the next leader of the Republican Party, followed by Mike Huckabee at 20 percent and 12 percent for Sarah Palin. of those surveyed believed Palin should be the GOP's new leader. Among Republican voters, Romney took 33 percent, Huckabee 20 percent and Palin 18 percent.

Romney wrote speech from beginning to end, RNC had little input

ST. PAUL -- Former Gov. Mitt Romney wrote his primetime speech from beginning to end and the Republican National Committee did not change much in the vetting process, according to Romney's staff.

Eric Fehrnstrom, a spokesman for Romney, told PolitickerMA.com that Romney drafted the entire speech himself. The speech was submitted to the RNC for review, Fehrnstrom said, but they did not make any "substantive changes."
