DENVER -- Presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama edged U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton among Massachusetts delegates Wednesday at the Democratic National Convention.
Obama (Ill.) received 65 votes and Clinton (D-N.Y.) received 52.
The Massachusetts delegation symbolically reported their votes, with state Sen. Therese Murray (D-Plymouth), the state's first woman Senate president, reporting Clinton's and Gov. Deval Patrick (D-Milton), the commonwealth's first African-American governor, reporting Obama's.
In her remarks, Murray chronicled several firsts that took place in the Bay State.
"We are the pioneer in universal health care," she said, "We are the birthplace of education. And we are first in equality in marriage in the United States."
And then the two leading Bay State political figures reported the tally.
"Massachusetts proudly casts its vote: 52 for Hillary Clinton," Murray said.
"And 65 for the next President of the United States, Barack Obama," Patrick concluded.
