U.S. Sen. John Kerry agreed Friday to debate primary challenger Ed O'Reilly, according the Kerry campaign.
There will be one debate, set to take place on WBZ-TV and it will be hosted by the station's political analyst, Jon Keller. Further details are still being finalized.
O'Reilly (Gloucester) has made his debate proposal a major part of his campaign, repeatedly charging that Kerry (Boston) was ducking his debate challenge. The final agreement falls well short of O'Reilly's original proposal, which called on the candidates to meet in each of the state's 14 counties, each University of Massachusetts campus and on four television networks.
The agreement comes after representatives of each campaign met Friday to work out the details.
Hooray!
This is great opportunity for people to see what Ed O'Reilly has to offer and what John Kerry has to offer.
This is a win-win for EOR, Kerry, and the people of MA.
Yes, EOR got enough signatures to get on the ballot. But when knowledge of the issues and the actual actions one needs to take to create legislation is discussed in more detail, the voters will see that Kerry has a greater depth of knowledge and experience that has benefited MA residents!
Let the debates begin!
Good to hear
I'm looking forward to an actual debate instead of debates about debates. The only objection I have is to Keller as a host. Oh well.
Ding Dong Ed
File Under: Be careful for what you hope for Eddie. At least you can do your personal attacks to his face now.
Glad to hear they ironed out
Glad to hear they ironed out the details. I knew this debate was going to happen; it was just a matter of both parties sitting down and negotiating in good faith. Looks like that is what happened.
Yes! Awesome!
Now everyone will have a chance to meet Ed O'reilly and get to know him. Ed has energy and enthusiasm, he is very knowledgeable about the issues. Ed is passionate about Massachusetts and our country. I'm sure that will come across in the debate. I only hope John Kerry doesn't monopolize the entire 30 minutes with self
appreciation.
