Swift to appear at Democratic National Convention event

Former Republican Gov. Jane Swift is scheduled to appear at an event at the Democratic National Convention, according to the convention's host committee.

Swift, who endorsed presumptive GOP nominee John McCain (Ariz.) early in the presidential race this year and has campaigned on his behalf, will attend the Symposium on Unconventional Women on Aug. 25. She will join Women's Voices, Women's Vote President Page Gardner, Ambassador Swanee Hunt, U.S. Rep. Hilda Solis (D-Calif.) and U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.).

The host committee insisted that is was not unusual for a Republican to appear at the event since it is put on by the host committee - a nonpartisan group.
