Romney: Obama’s latest ad stoops to ‘dishonesty’

U.S. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Former Gov. Mitt Romney (R): Getty ImageContinuing his work as a surrogate for presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain, former Gov. Mitt Romney (R) criticized presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama on Monday for his most recent television advertisement.

The Obama ad targets McCain for being too closely tied to oil companies. In particular, the ad charges that McCain has received $2 million in oil contributions that the presumptive GOP nominee plans to give oil companies $4 billion in tax breaks instead of levying taxes on their windfall profits.

"Well, that's really sad," Romney said when asked to respond on CNN's "American Morning" Monday. "I didn't know that Barack Obama had stooped to dishonesty. You know, pointing out weaknesses in other people's campaigns or positions is also fair game, but that's dishonest."

Romney went on to say that corporations don't contribute to candidates, their employees do and those employees have given to both McCain and Obama.

The former governor then refuted Obama's claim that McCain plans to give oil companies a tax break.

"John McCain doesn't ask for any tax reduction for oil companies," he said. "There's no special deal going to oil companies. He's asking to reduce taxes on all corporations to help build our economy and strengthen jobs as well as reducing taxes on individuals."

Pressed to respond to McCain's plan to cut the corporate tax rate by 10 percent, which would benefit oil companies, Romney said all corporations would benefit from the cut, not just oil companies.

"He's lowering taxes for all corporations in America to help make us more competitive with other nations of the world where corporations are going, because we have the highest corporate tax rate in the world next to Japan. So, he's trying to build our economy and create more jobs and he's not singling out any one company or another."

Ultimately, Romney said, Obama's ad is "simply dishonest as well as below the belt."

In Case you need reminding

In Case you need reminding why Romney cant be Veep, just go to http://www.hotpres.com they have put together a few of Romneys attack ads used against mccain during the primary, not to mention a video of him calling mccain dishonest. Thats not counting the beat up evangelecals who have been complely left out of the process this year. I guess it doesnt matter. I dont think McCain can win as the Nominee anyway. Could you imagine McCain even having enough energy to run your local Mcdonalds. Seriously. Think about it next time your in line watching the Mcdonalds manager run around taking orders and shouting orders. McCain couldnt do it. So I ask You, how will McCain be president??? Looks as though the RNC got behind the wrong candidate and they will pay for it., Guess they should of let the primary season play out without trying to minupulate the outcome.. Good news is i think McCain is just about done, I wouldnt doubt the GOP ditch him at the last second and run a younger more charasmatic charachter. Did you see him knock all that stuff off the shelf at the supermarket. the video is at http://www.mccanes.com all the while barack obama is looking like an NBA super star, (arrogence and all) even taking time to stop and have a cigar break video at http://www.theobamaplan.com

Romney is Right

Romney has it exactly right. He seems to be one of the only ones out there that is speaking the truth for what it is. Barack Hussein Obama's solution is to raise your taxes and put it to corporations particularly the oil companies and "distribute the wealth"? Please...how does this help our economy and encourage companies to do their business in the good old U.S.A? It doesn't. There is nothing that locks companies up in the U.S. to do business. They'll go where the conditions are favorable to do business if we tax them more. Even the most liberal economists admit that Barack Hussein Obama's economic solution do not open the door for future growth out of this mild recession. Like I said, Romney understands the situation for what it is, Obama doesn't. Who are you going to listen to when push comes to shove with out fragile economy....Romney, a proven success in the free market economy, or Obama, a local community organizer running for POTUS?

Huh?

Another IDCTBI (uninformed and don't care to be informed) voter. Let me get this right: you are voting based on the impression that Obama "looks like an NBA star" and McCain looks older?????! I am astounded. I hope and pray you are 12 years old with a poster of Michael Jordan hanging on your wall.

McCain is for lower taxes, less government waste, fiscal responsibility, security, strengthening the position of America economically and politically.

Obama is for RAISING YOUR taxes, cutting the military, is practically apologizing to Europe for being an American, wants to turn hospitals into the DMV, is a total embarrassment, has no experience, and with regards to national security, pledged that he would sit down for tea with Chavez and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, and when asked if he would bomb suspected terror cells in an ally nation, he said he would! Huh? He says NO to increasing American oil drilling and yes to buying more oil from the Middle East. Crazy. What a fool. Do you want: A) an Oprah Winfrey star to be president, or B)a Veteran, a seasoned politician, an experienced leader? I don't care how much "energy" the guy has...choosing a leader on your criteria is how Germany was duped into electing Hitler. Education is your only protection.

McCain's support for American oil

Obama's ad has it backwards on the McCain oil contributions. They have the cart before the horse. It is silly to think McCain supports Drill here and Drill now and Drill offshore because of contributions from oil company executives. McCain supports it because polls show as high as 75% of the American public supports it and he is after votes and knows we have to stop sending billions of dollars to countries that would like to see us destroyed. Individuals connected with oil and with other things contribute to his campaign because they want him to win... and one of the reasons they want him to win... is because he supports things that they support... such as drilling for oil. They jump on his ship because it is going the way they want to go and they want to make sure he gets there. And he is driving his ship in that direction because in a democracy the will of the people should still drive the ship of state. Many Democrats in Congress try to ignore the will of the people and try to prevent popular votes in Congress that might allow the people to have their will carried out. They would rather follow their own elitists path... and in doing so violate that old Republican line... "that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth" But that line still rings true... at least for some.
