The Boston Herald reports that state Sen. James Marzilli (D-Arlington) pled not guilty Wednesday afternoon to harassment and assault charges.
Marzilli faces four counts of annoying and accosting a member of the opposite sex, attempting to commit assault, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. All of these events are said to have taken place on June 3.
The Arlington senator is currently free on $1,500 bail and is set to return to court on July 28.
The Herald also reports that prosecutors are collecting video footage from surveillance cameras of buildings near the events and DVD photos of Marzilli's car in Lowell, where the events occurred, the day of the alleged assaults.
Marzilli's lawyer noted that the senator has been diagnosed with bipolar disease but did not comment on whether Marzilli will use that diagnosis in his defense.
