House Speaker Salvatore DiMasi plans to endorse Sonia Chang-Diaz in her general election race against state Sen. Dianne Wilkerson Tuesday morning.
House Speaker Salvatore DiMasi (D-Boston)
Sources close to the speaker told PolitickerMA.com Monday night that DiMasi, who backed Wilkerson last month in her primary against Chang-Diaz, will endorse Chang-Diaz at a Democratic Party unity event Tuesday in Boston's South End.
Chang-Diaz defeated state Sen. Dianne Wilkerson in Suffolk County's 2nd District Democrat Primary on Sept. 16. Since then, Wilkerson, of Boston, has vowed to run a write-in campaign in the general election against Chang-Diaz, of Jamaica Plain.
DiMasi becomes the third major Bay State politician to switch his allegiance from Wilkerson to Chang-Diaz. Gov. Deval Patrick (D-Milton) and state Senate President Therese Murray (D-Plymouth) also backed Wilkerson in the primary and have switched to supporting Chang-Diaz since she won the Democratic primary.

To each his own. This gentleman has a right to support whomever he chooses. Personally, I think he should stay neutral as many others are doing because it makes him appear a "fair weather" supporter. However, to each his own.
Wilkerson/Chang-Diaz
The focus of the race between Dianne Wilkerson and Sonia Chang-Diaz is rooted in two primary issues. One candidate focused on leadership based on ethical integrity and the other an historical record of service deliveries to constituents.
It is unfortunate when a candidate relies on blame and intimidation in an effort to distract attention from serious allegations of inappropriate activities. The true strength of long-term leadership is based in ethical practice. Our representatives must understand the need to function within the boundaries of the legal/moral system within which their constituents live.
It is understanding that there can be no difference in the rules defining the practice of governance and being governed.
