Romney says he's hasn't submitted anything to McCain's vetting team

Mitt Romney, widely considered a top prospect for John McCain's vice presidential nominee, says he has yet to submit anything to those doing the vetting for the Republican presidential candidate.

On whether he had been asked to provide any information, Romney told Fox News' Sean Hannity, "No, not at this stage and who knows if that'll ever happen?"

"Don't ask me, it's not something I'm involved with at all," he said on McCain's selection process. "I'm not the one that does the vetting."

"In all likelihood, you're not looking at the guy they'll choose."

Pressed on his criticism of McCain during the primary campaign, Romney said "There are places we disagreed on certain issues. I wouldn't have been running if that weren't the case," but overall, "he's got the right prescription to make the economy stronger."

He said he was not wild about the Arizona senator's persistent chiding of Donald Rumsfeld "as one of the worst secretaries of defense in history," but has come around to seeing this as a positive trait for McCain.

"That's pretty tough on your party's own administration," Romney said of McCain, which makes it harder for Democratic nominee Barack Obama to tie him to Bush.

One of the more awkward moments of the interview came when host Sean Hannity asked the former governor to comment on Obama saying today that it's embarrassing that Americans are not as bilingual as Europeans.

"It’s embarrassing when Europeans come over here, they all speak English, they speak French, they speak German. And then we go over to Europe and all we can say is, 'Merci beaucoup'" -- 'thank you' in French.

Hannity focused on the 'French' angle, a successful line of attack used heavily against 2004 Democratic nominee John Kerry, asking Romney, "Your thoughts?"

But perhaps Hannity forgot that he was speaking with a former Mormon missionary who spent two years in France during the 1960s.

Romney, fluent in the language, declined the opportunity to take a shot at Obama's comment.

"I can say more than, 'Merci beacoup,'" he said.

You're kind of proving

You're kind of proving Obama's point right here yourselves. The proper spelling is "beaucoup"
